About PECO Power Outages

PECO is Exelon's electric and gas utility for Philadelphia and surrounding southeastern Pennsylvania counties. Center City network events look different from a Chester County tree-on-wire. PPL Electric, FirstEnergy companies, and munis serve other parts of Pennsylvania — a Scranton outage is not PECO.

Users do not pick PECO. We count power reports from states where PECO appears, which includes all of Pennsylvania in our table. We are not PECO.

How to Report a PECO Outage

Open the PECO app or peco.com/outages on cellular data. Report by phone or enrolled texting. If PECO shows no outage, check the panel and whether the next rowhouse still has lights — a building riser can fail while the street is on.

Why PECO Power Goes Out

In Southeastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia and surrounding counties, an electric outage is usually local distribution, not a collapse of the bulk grid. Typical PECO patterns:

Suburban tree-on-wire in wet snow

Montgomery, Bucks, and Chester counties lose laterals when wet snow loads oaks.

Philadelphia network and vault faults

An underground failure can darken a few Center City blocks without a single pole coming down.

Tropical remnants up the Delaware

Leftover rain bands flood vaults and drop trees in the same 24 hours.

Vehicle-pole strikes on arterial roads

A crash on a suburban arterial can isolate a tap at rush hour.

Before You Call PECO

  1. Open the PECO Outage Center or PECO app.
  2. See whether the whole block is dark or only your building.
  3. Check the main breaker and apartment/panel GFCIs.
  4. Report in the PECO app if the map has no event.
  5. Stay away from downed lines and smoking manholes; call 911.
