Why National Grid Power Goes Out
In Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and upstate New York National Grid electric territories, an electric outage is usually local distribution, not a collapse of the bulk grid. Typical National Grid patterns:
Heavy, wet snow on New England hardwoods is the classic multi-day National Grid restoration event.
Mohawk Valley and North Country ice storms can isolate rural taps for days after cities are restored.
Salt air and tropical remnants take down coastal laterals even when inland Massachusetts is only blinking.
