About AEP Power Outages
American Electric Power is a holding company. The names on bills in this hub are AEP Ohio, AEP Texas, Appalachian Power, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, and SWEPCO. An Ohio ice storm, a Texas coastal hurricane, and an Oklahoma ice-and-wind event are different control rooms. Use the outage map for the operating company on the bill (aeptexas.com/outagemap, appalachianpower.com/outagemap, psoklahoma.com/outagemap, swepco.com/outagemap, or AEP Ohio).

Why AEP Power Goes Out
In Ohio, Texas, Appalachia (APCo), Oklahoma (PSO), and SWEPCO's four-state pocket, an electric outage is usually local distribution, not a collapse of the bulk grid. Typical AEP patterns:
AEP Ohio laterals ice up along the I-71 corridor and in rural counties after a single glaze event.
Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend take tropical wind and lightning that Ohio never sees.
West Virginia, Virginia, and Tennessee APCo circuits lose trees and access roads after ice, delaying crews.
Oklahoma and the Ark-La-Tex mix ice storms with spring tornadoes; SWEPCO and PSO maps are the restoration source.
Before You Call AEP

- See whether neighbors on the same tap are dark.
- Report through that company's app or outage phone number.
- After ice in Appalachia, assume road access — not just wire — can delay the ETR on the official map.
