About APS Power Outages
Arizona Public Service is the state's largest investor-owned utility, serving a wide rural and mountain footprint plus parts of the Phoenix area. Salt River Project serves a large share of metro Phoenix meters — an APS outage page is the wrong map for many Phoenix addresses. Monsoon microbursts and summer heat are the restoration drivers.
Users do not pick APS. We count power reports from states where Arizona Public Service (APS) appears — Arizona-wide, including SRP cities. We are not APS.
How to Report a APS Outage
Open outagemap.aps.com or the APS app on cellular data. Report by phone or app. If APS does not serve the address, use SRP's outage tools or the co-op on the bill. ETRs come from APS.
Why APS Power Goes Out
In Arizona APS territory (Phoenix metro in part, plus much of the rest of the state; SRP serves much of metro Phoenix), an electric outage is usually local distribution, not a collapse of the bulk grid. Typical APS patterns:
A haboob or downburst can take a few feeders down in minutes across the Valley or high desert.
Prolonged 110°F+ days stress transformers and secondary on APS circuits.
Flagstaff and mountain circuits fail on a winter calendar Phoenix never sees.
Many Phoenix-area meters are SRP. The bill logo decides which official map to trust.
Before You Call APS
- Confirm the bill says APS, not SRP or a co-op.
- Open the APS Outage Map or APS app.
- See whether neighbors on the same transformer are dark.
- Report in the APS app if the map has no event.
- During monsoon flooding, stay away from downed lines and pad-mounted gear.
